“Urusei Yatsura” is a romantic comedy based on the brilliant serialized debut work of Rumiko Takahashi, a manga artist who is still active at the forefront of her field. The story begins with a boy-meets-girl relationship between Ataru Moroboshi, the “most dangerous” high school student on Earth, and Lum, a beautiful demon girl who descended from space. The story is bold and fearless, but also full of love, and somewhat sad, and is colored by characters who gather from all over the galaxy.
This TV anime commemorating the 100th anniversary of Shogakukan’s founding is a completely new adaptation of selected episodes from the original work over a total of four seasons. The first season aired from October 2022 to March 2023, followed by the second season in January 2024.
The newly released “THANK YOU! Visual” shows Lum sitting cross-legged, with the characters that color the film, such as Ataru, Shinobu, Mendou, Sakuronbo, Sakura, Ranrei, Oyuki, Benten, Ten, Ryunosuke, Ryunosuke’s father, and Kotatsu Neko, drawn at her feet with expressions and gestures that are characteristic of them.
Additionally, Kamiya Hiroshi, who plays Ataru Moroboshi, and Uesaka Sumire, who plays Lum, shared their thoughts on the final episode. Kamiya said, “I was happy to be involved in Urusei Yatsura, which I love! I’m grateful to everyone who was involved in the series! And Ataru, thank you so much! It was so much fun!!”
Uesaka commented, “I am truly, truly happy to have been able to play Lum for four seasons! I’m so happy! I’m sad that it’s the final episode, but I am once again honored to have been able to play my beloved Lum all the way through to ‘Boy Meets Girl’.”
