Poor detective Sosuke Kaburaya meets Sarah, a princess from another world who wields magic, while he was following him. And Livia, a female knight who has been chasing Sarah. The two spend their daily lives in Gifu, meeting various people. However, it is interesting to see how the daily life unfolds in ways that go beyond expectations. That’s the kind of work it is.
Animate Times will deliver official interviews with the cast after each episode! We asked them to talk about the charm and enjoyment of their work.
In the first episode (Part 1), Shin Furukawa plays Sosuke Kaburaya, a simple man who runs a poor detective agency.
–Please tell us your impressions of the work “Weird Person’s Salad Bowl”.
Furukawa: I thought it was a comedy piece that came from a perspective that is rarely seen. There’s a lot of talk about reincarnation in another world, which is popular these days, as well as meta jokes and current events, but there’s also a main storyline.
The main story continues to revolve around Sarah’s (CV: Hinayoshi Yano)’s “everyday life transported to another world” and Sosuke’s detective work, but there are a lot of really strange characters… ( lol). The title is “Weird Person’s Salad Bowl,” and I think there are few works with such a fitting title.
ーーThe people who show up and the people who show up are weirdos…
Furukawa: Most of them are weirdos, aren’t they? There are some people who are relatively decent, but most of them are just repeating the things that are rumored in real life.
–Isn’t Sosuke a decent person?
Furukawa: I think Sosuke is still decent, hmm…but I felt that the way he left the office and became a detective on his own was more “green” than weird.
–That’s certainly true. But I thought he was an honest person.
Furukawa: He’s very straightforward, and I feel like he hasn’t given up on chasing his ideals yet.
–The same goes for band members.
Furukawa: That’s right. Also, there are novelists who are homeless for some reason (lol). Why are you doing that? That’s what I mean. I thought I should just hide in the clouds.
–I heard that this was a tape audition, but did Sosuke say a lot of tsukkomi?
Furukawa: The parts that were excerpted for the audition script were definitely detective stories. There are many elements of a young man who is passionate about becoming his ideal detective. The manuscript was impressive in that it contrasted the present, where people are giving up on something, and the passionate past, and I played it in a very grotesque way.
If you read through the original work, you’ll get a different impression.
–It’s not that easy.
Furukawa: He was a warmer person (lol). It was interesting to be able to dub the first episode after reading the original story and knowing that Sosuke had a lot of feelings towards his family and his own ideals. There were some changes in the direction, but I think it’ll be fun to see this continue for one season! It was the dubbing that made me think.
–What was the part where you had direction?
Furukawa: The direction was to give it an easy-going feel, and to bring out more blueness.
Sosuke was a lot greener than I expected, and rather than being cool, he seemed to be someone who was very straightforward and difficult to manipulate (lol). Also, during the recording of the first episode, I realized that the amount of calories consumed was higher than I expected! That’s what it means. But more than that, Mr. Yano, who plays Sara, and M.A.O., who plays Livia, were working hard, so I thought I had to try my best not to lose.
ーーIf you think about it from the audition, there must have been a lot more tsukkomi.
古川：しっかり増えていましたね。ツッコミ方もいろいろ考えながら毎話やっているので、とても楽しかったです。一辺倒になってしまうと面白くないですから。テストだと、ありがたいことに、いい感じでツッコミが決まると、まわりがクスッと笑ってくれたりするんです。あれは本当に心強い。良かった〜、笑ってくれた！と思いながら、毎話やっています（笑）。
ーー本番は、卓のほうでは笑っているんでしょうけど、それはアフレコブースには聞こえないですからね。
古川：有線とかで返してほしいですよね。そうしたら「今のは、イマイチだったか」とか、わかるので（笑）。
惣助の魅力って、真っ当さと青さとツッコミスキルみたいなところに加えて、包容力があるんですよ。しっかりと誰かをサポートできる、誰かのために動ける人間なので、それが第1話の時点でわかるのは、いいなと思いました。サラが周りを振り回していく感じと、彼の面倒見の良さが噛み合って、このあとの物語を生んでいくんでしょうね。
