■6th week weekly video
6th week weekly video “Kasumi Nakasu ver.” / Screening from October 11th (Friday) to October 17th (Thursday)
A staff talk screening of the movie “Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club Final Chapter Chapter 1” was held on Monday, October 7th. After the audience thoroughly enjoyed the screening, director Kawamura Tomoyuki, screenwriter Tanaka Jin, and Mebachi from Design Works took to the stage. An exclusive talk event with the staff who created the movie began.
First, Director Kawamura spoke about his enthusiasm for this film, saying that since it is the final installment, he wanted to pack in everything he wanted to do so that he would have no regrets. Next, Tanaka spoke of his enthusiasm to portray the film as a conclusion to the TV series, which is set in the third semester. Mebachi spoke of his feelings, saying that although he had been working on the film with the intention of depicting everyone as they always do, he also felt a sense of loneliness as it was the final installment.
Speaking about the scenario, Director Kawamura said that the first season of the TV anime depicted the members’ solo activities, the second season depicted their group activities, and the movie will depict their solo activities once again through “School Idol GPX”. He commented that in order to properly depict each member’s solo activities in the final episode, the Nijigasaki members’ scenes were divided. Tanaka then revealed that from the beginning of the project, she thought it would be good to have a story where the members compete against each other as individuals, after experiencing solo as individuals and as a group of friends. In particular, it was revealed that the structure of the first chapter was decided from the early stages to have the climax be about the rivalry between Ayumu, who continues to grow as a school idol, and Lange, who already has a high level of professionalism.
Speaking of the live performance scenes, Director Kawamura said that he was particular about having all the Nijigasaki members appear in the footage, including those who did not go to Okinawa. He said that his aim was to show that the girls are currently involved with the club, unlike the live performance scenes in the TV anime, which focused on one member in depth. He also said that he was particular about including Okinawan scenery and scenes that depict the members’ mental landscapes. Incidentally, the spring, summer, fall, and winter scenes sandwiched between Ema’s live performance scenes were apparently inserted with the order in which the members joined in mind, so scenes depicting the spring before Ayumu and the others joined the club, the summer after they joined, the autumn when Lange and the others joined, and the winter they spent with QU4RTZ were inserted. The director’s attention to detail drew admiration from the audience.
Next, Mebachi spoke about the costumes worn by each of the performers at their live shows. Shizuku is the first to appear in this film, and as he wanted to show an unexpected side of her by using designs and colors that she doesn’t usually wear, he struggled with the colors and came up with many ideas. He also revealed that Kanata’s costume, which at first glance looks like a mermaid, is actually inspired by a fishman. Mebachi wanted to express the strong Kanata who has grown up. Regarding Ayumu’s costume, which is striking in its deep pink color and fishnet stockings, he commented that he designed it to show her strength, as he believed that Ayumu would be able to wear it confidently now that she has grown up.
