Director Umetsu Yasuomi teams up with Shaft for original animation series “Virgin Punk”! The first installment, “Clockwork Girl,” will be released in early summer 2025!Virgin Punk, an original animated series directed by Umetsu Yasuomi and animated by Shaft, was announced today at the online event Aniplex Online Fest 2024.

The first in the series, “Clockwork Girl,” is scheduled to be released at Cine Libre Ikebukuro and Theater Umeda in early summer 2025.

Umetsu Yasuomi is a genius in the world of Japanese animation who has written the original stories, directed and designed the characters for works such as “A KITE” (1998) and “MEZZO FORTE” (2000), and has gained popularity both at home and abroad for his unique worldviews.

In recent years, he has been active in a variety of fields, including directing opening and ending videos for various popular titles and working as an animator, and has now announced that he will be directing his first animation project in about 10 years, “Virgin Punk.”

Working with director Umetsu Yasuomi on the film production is animation studio Shaft, the studio behind long-loved and beloved works such as “Puella Magi Madoka Magica” and the “Monogatari” series.

“Virgin Punk” is an original animation series that Umetsu Yasuomi has teamed up with Shaft and is himself responsible for planning and creating the original story.

The script was written by Yuya Takahashi, who has worked on the Kamen Rider series, the animated film series “LUPIN THE ⅢRD,” and the TV drama “Mountain Doctor.” With his unique animation skills, the script tells the story of the struggles of the main character, Ubu, who finds herself living as a bounty hunter, and the desires and chaos woven by the strong characters who surround her.

The first film, “Clockwork Girl,” is scheduled to be released at Cine Libre Ikebukuro and Theater Umeda in early summer 2025. Don’t miss it!
