This time, we conducted an email interview with Seiichiro Yamashita, who plays Jin, and Ayane Sakura, who plays Sena! We asked them about their impressions of the story and visuals, and their thoughts on acting.
–This work features an epic story and powerful dinosaur battles. What was your impression when you first read the script?
Yamashita: I was drawn to the romantic setting of dinosaurs and mecha. Not only that, but each character’s background, true feelings, public image, and drama were all well-drawn, and I really enjoyed reading the script every time.
— Having seen the actual footage, what do you find appealing about it?
Yamashita: The sequence where Bulls and the other dinosaurs transform and combine with the machines was of incredible quality and electrifying. The backgrounds of this film were also produced and shot using CG, and I was impressed by how cutting-edge the film was.
–It’s currently being distributed on Amazon Prime Video and other platforms. What are the highlights and episodes you recommend?
Yamashita: Of course there’s the action, but the relationships between the characters and the changes in their relationships make it a worthwhile human drama. The characters are all so unique, you’re sure to find someone you like!
–What were the fun and difficult parts of playing the character of Jin?
Yamashita: I don’t have much experience dubbing foreign dramas, so the recording was a constant source of tension. However, I was inspired by Jin’s cheerfulness and bravery, and the recording became more and more enjoyable. I admire Jin’s honesty and freedom.
–One of the attractions of this work is the human drama of the pilots of the D-Armor, including Jin and Ayane Sakura’s Sena. What did you think of the actions of the boys and girls who struggle to protect the Earth?
Yamashita: I think it’s great that Jin, as well as Senna and the others, each have their own circumstances, life challenges and dramas. The senior Linkers’ career paths and retirements after graduating from the D-Armor add depth to the work, and I think it’s an element that adults can get hooked on.
–The process in which Jin and his partner, the T-Rex “Bulls”, deepened their bond in the story was particularly impressive. Is there any episode that you remember?
Yamashita: When we first met, we struggled a lot because we didn’t get along well. In D-Armor, we had to take turns taking care of the dinosaurs… feeding them and cleaning up after them. It was impressive to see how they were not just cool and active, but also had to face each other as partners.
