Prior to the start of the film, an “earliest advance screening” was held at Marunouchi TOEI on Sunday, August 25th. Appearing on stage were Chinen Hidekazu , who plays the main character Kamen Rider Gab/Shoma, Hino Yusuke, who plays Kamen Rider Valen/Karakida Kizuto , Miyabe Nozomi , who plays the heroine Amane Yukika, Tsukamoto Takashi , who plays Rango, the eldest son of the Stomac family that stands in Shoma’s way, Chitose Machi , who plays Grotta, the eldest daughter , and Takizawa Ryo , who plays Nielve, the second son .
Although the names and roles of the cast members had already been announced, this was the first time that all six of them appeared together in front of an audience! The highly anticipated main cast members had a friendly chat with Director Teruaki Sugihara .
“Kamen Rider Gab” is the first in the series to feature a hero with a sweets motif. The main character is Shouma (Hidekazu Chinen), a young man who loves sweets and comes from another world.
Shouma, who was hungry after coming to the human world, meets and is helped by kind people including the jack-of-all-trades gyaru president, Amane Yukika (Miyabe Nozomi), and they decide to fight to protect humans from the monster “Granute” who tries to kidnap happy humans.
When he eats sweets, he can create his minion, “Gochizou,” and with that power he transforms into “Kamen Rider Gab.”
Gab can transform into various sweet forms, including his gummy Popping Mi form, crunchy potato chip form, fluffy marshmallow form, candy Gurucan form, and chocolate Chocodan form, to face off against his enemies.
Eventually, Karakita Kizunato (Hino Yusuke), a writer who has been pursuing information on Granute, also finds himself thrown into the battle as Kamen Rider Valen…
The first and second episodes were shown at the advance screening ahead of the broadcast, and the audience was thrilled to see the new hero in action! Chinen was touched by the thunderous applause from the audience and expressed his feelings about the unveiling of the completed first episode, saying, “I’m so relieved that we can finally deliver this to everyone!”
During the talk show, each of them shared their secrets about how they prepared for their roles. Chinen revealed that the main character Shoma eats sweets to gain the power of his familiar “Gochizou” and transform into Gab, so there are many scenes where he eats. He said, “I want to cherish the feeling of eating something for the first time on set, so I’m careful not to eat sweets in my daily life as much as possible.” However, when comedian Shinomiya Satoru, who acted as the MC for the event, praised him for the memorable scene in the first episode where he eats gummy candy with gumminess, Chinen said, “I ate so many (gummy candy) over and over again under Director Sugihara that I got sick of it, and that scene was completed,” letting his true feelings slip out!?
Hino Yusuke, who plays Kamen Rider Valen/Karakida Kizunato, revealed that he is working out to add depth to his character, saying, “I have narrow shoulders, and when I first tried on this coat for the costume fitting, the director told me, ‘The coat is wearing you,’ so I started doing strength training every day. I hope everyone will see the beauty of my well-trained physique (laughs).”
Miyabe Nozomi, who plays the heroine Amane Yukika, took to the stage in gal fashion with blonde hair and a miniskirt and said, “If you look at the promotional photos you’ll understand, but I was never anything like a gal to begin with, so when I heard I’d be playing a gal role I started watching videos of gals and studying the gal mind every day,” demonstrating that she is now a gal in both body and mind!
Meanwhile, Tsukamoto Takashi, Takizawa Ryo, and Chitose Machi, who play the brothers of the Stomach family, the masterminds behind sending “Granute” to the human world, each expressed their feelings for their villains.
In fact, Tsukamoto, who made a surprise appearance at this early screening and thrilled the audience, revealed that this was his first time taking part in a special effects film. He reported that it had been a long-cherished dream to appear in the film, saying, “About 10 years ago, when my son was just starting to watch special effects films, I asked Toei if I could appear in the film, but they wouldn’t listen to me at the time…After 10 years, I finally got to appear, but now my son is grown up…”
「ショウマと対峙するときに、まったく真逆な存在であるということを心がけながら、ストマック家の長男・ランゴを演じています」と敵役の極意についてコメントしました。
続いて次男・ニエルブを演じる滝澤諒は「ストーリーを大きく動かしていくのは、敵役ならではのおいしいところ。毎回台本を開いてストマック家の人間がどう物語を動かしていくのか追うのがすごく楽しみ」と悪役ならではの醍醐味を語り、
ずっと悪役を演じてみたかったという千歳まちは「まさかこの仮面ライダーの敵役をやらせていただけるとは！ 感激して、毎日が楽しいです！ 長女のグロッタはビジュアルにも迫力ありますが、とても強い女性なので、ぜひその存在感を楽しんでいただけたら」と呼びかけていました。
イベントの後半では、それぞれがこれから注目してもらいたいポイントをPR！
知念は「ショウマのポイントは、“ゴチゾウ”ちゃんたちとのやり取りですね。撮影では動かないゴチゾウちゃんを前に、その反応や動きを想像しながらお芝居をするのでとても難しいのですが、話数を重ねるごとにうまくなってくると思うので見ていただけるとうれしいです」と、CGで登場するかわいい眷属・ゴチゾウとのシーンを挙げ、
塚本は「ちゃんと悪くて、ちゃんと強い悪役を演じたい」と自身の意気込みを語りながら、「でもいちばんは、ショウマがどんなふうに強くなり、人間と関わってどう変わっていくかを見ていただきたい！」と、知念へのエールをこめてみどころを熱弁。
そして杉原監督は「人間界にやって来たショウマが絆斗や幸果たちと関わることでどう成長していくのかもみどころですし、ストマック家とどういった因縁があるのかもポイント。あとは、キャストたちの筋トレの成果を見ていただければ…（笑）」とジョークを交えて『仮面ライダーガヴ』の魅力を語っていました。
トークショーの最後には、知念が「ようやく『仮面ライダーガヴ』という作品が世界中の人たちに届けられると思うと、すごくうれしいです。この作品がみなさんに愛されて、『仮面ライダーガヴ』に出会えてよかったと思ってもらえるような作品になるように、僕たちキャスト含めスタッフのみなさんと全力で作品作りに取り組んでいきますので、１年間応援よろしくお願いいたします！」とこれから１年間、全力で疾走していくことを宣言していました。
