To celebrate the 20th anniversary of “Soul Eater,” the “Soul Eater 20th Anniversary Original Art Exhibition” will be held at the Tokyo venue (Animate Ikebukuro Main Store, 8th floor, Space Galleria) from Friday, August 23rd to Monday, September 23rd, 2024!
This exhibition is packed with highlights, including original monochrome and color manuscripts, a three-dimensional display of the Grim Reaper’s mirror inside the Death Room, acrylic layered art that can only be seen here, and a special video with newly recorded voice-overs.
In this article, we will be bringing you a report on the “Soul Eater 20th Anniversary Original Art Exhibition,” where you can relive the story of Maka, Soul and the other “craftsmen” and “weapons”!
In front of the reception desk, you will be greeted by an original illustration drawn by Atsushi Okubo for this exhibition. As an admission bonus, you will receive a randomly drawn mini colored paper (3 types in total) drawn by Atsushi Okubo.
As we walked through the entrance, we came across a three-dimensional display of the scythe that Maka Albarn’s magical weapon, Soul Eater, transformed into, along with a row of covers from volumes 1 to 25 of the original manga, Soul Eater. Anticipation for the original art exhibition that began here gradually grew.
This time, there are more than 300 original monochrome and color manuscripts on display!
On the next floor, fans can enjoy huge panels of Maka Albarn, Soul Eater, and Blair, Black☆Star and Nakatsuka Tsubaki, Death the Kid, Liz Thompson, and Patty Thompson, Death Scythe and Franken Stein, Oxford, Kim Deal, and Kiriku Lungu, as well as original illustrations of the characters’ first appearance scenes, making it a must-see area.
Also, when you pass through the torii gate in the center, you will see a standee panel of the Grim Reaper and a three-dimensional display of the Grim Reaper’s mirror in the Death Room. You can actually stand in front of that mirror in the story…! It seems to be a very exciting place for fans as well as a photo spot.
As you walk further, you’ll come across a spot featuring Excalibur, the beloved character who is somehow hard to hate and known for his catchphrase, “You idiot!” You can almost hear the unforgettable “Excalibur Song” any second now.
Next, famous scenes featuring Maka, Black☆Star, and Kid were displayed on the wall. Some scenes were also depicted on the wall in sync with the scenes, so you’ll definitely feel immersed in the world of the work.
The real joy of working with original manuscripts is being able to see not only the powerful lines, but also the dialogue in the speech bubbles.
