Animate Times is running a series of interviews looking back on the anime broadcast! This time, we asked series composer Yoriko Tomita about her impressions of the original author, Pom-sensei, and what to look forward to in the future.
–What was your first impression when you read the original work and what you found interesting about it?
Series Composition: Yoriko Tomita (hereafter, Tomita): My first impression was that the illustrations were very beautiful, and I thought the colors were especially beautiful and wonderful. What I found interesting was that there were many frames drawn in a deformed style, which made it easy to see the story’s rhythm.
–Please tell us your impression of the original author, Pom-sensei.
Tomita: I met Pom-sensei once, and I thought she was a very delicate, sweet, and cute person, just like the pictures she drew. After that, we mainly communicated by email through the person in charge at LINE Manga, and after several exchanges, I noticed that Pom-sensei called Saki “Saki-chan,” which I thought was very Pom-sensei-like.
–What was the most difficult episode or scene for you to write the script for in this series?
Tomita: Episodes 4 and 5. I don’t want to go into why that is, as it would take too long to explain the differences between the media from scratch, but I roughly thought I would make episode 4 mainly about Ryuji (Ryuji), and episode 5 mainly about Saki, so I swapped out some episodes from the original so that each character’s feelings would be better conveyed. However, I had to incorporate Saki’s feelings little by little from episode 4 onwards, so that was difficult.
