The second cast interview to celebrate the start of the broadcast is with Katsuyuki Konishi, who plays the role of Gerhard. The conversation goes from his impressions of the series and Gerhard to child-rearing and housework. Please read on to find out about the highlights of the series and Konishi’s passionate “theory of housework” that will resonate with men all over the world.
–Please tell us your impressions and what you found appealing about this work after reading the script and performing it.
Katsuyuki Konishi (hereinafter, Konishi): Originally, the “TRUMP Series” was a stage production, but when I had the opportunity to look at the timeline of the “TRUMP Series,” I was surprised at how extensive it was, and thought, “This history is amazing.”
I thought that this “Deliko’s Nursery” would be a must-read for people who like to study history, information, and frequently used technical terms. It seems like I’m getting more and more addicted to it. It also includes the element that everyone loves, vampires, and child-rearing is also an important element.
At the time of this interview, only the first two episodes have been completed, but in the first episode, the children start raising their children, but in the second episode, Gerhard and the others are terrible at raising their children (laughs). None of them are used to raising children, so I think it will be interesting to see how things go from here on out.
–The gap between seriousness and comedy in this work is amazing.
Konishi: I think there are highs and lows that are so intense you could catch a cold (laughs).
–Please tell us your impression of the character Gerhard Fulla that you play, and what you find appealing about him.
Konishi: Of the four core members, Gerhardt is the strictest and most serious. He cares so much about his lineage and his duties that he feels anger and frustration towards Dali, saying, “You should be able to do it properly, why don’t you do it?” He’s always irritated, so I feel sorry for him and think, “This guy seems like he got the short end of the stick” (laughs).
Whether he wanted it or not, he and Dali had become a bad acquaintance before he knew it. They’ve known each other for a long time, so he’s probably always been worried about Dali. He says he should leave her alone, but he ends up taking care of her. From now on, he’ll be juggling his duties with raising his child, but I feel like he’s always had something like a father.
――ちなみに『TRUMPシリーズ』の舞台はご覧になられましたか？
小西：実は舞台も映像もまだちゃんと見ることができていなくて。上演中のカットはいくつか見させていただきましたが、どれも素敵で。「俺が本当にこれをやるのか」というプレッシャーを感じてしまいました（笑）。僕自身も「ゲルハルト役で、なぜ自分が受かったんだろう？」と今でも不思議です。
――森田さんも同じようなことをおっしゃっていました。
小西：じゃあ仲間ですね(笑)
