“City Hunter” is the long-awaited first live-action film in Reiwa Japan, based on the manga by Tsukasa Hojo, which has caused a huge boom with over 50 million copies sold. The main character of the story, Ryo Saeba, is a top-notch sweeper based in Shinjuku, Tokyo who handles various troubles in the underworld. The story depicts how he loves unparalleled beautiful women, and when he meets a beautiful woman, he loses his nerve, but when he receives a request, he uses his extraordinary gun skills, physical ability, and calm mind to complete the job.
In this work, Ryohei Suzuki plays the role of Ryo Saeba, a cool, silly and stubborn person. In addition, Nozomi Morita will play the role of the heroine Kaori Makimura, Masanobu Ando will play the role of Hideyuki Makimura, Ryo’s partner, and Fumino Kimura will play the role of Saeko Nogami, a beautiful detective who has a corrupt relationship with Ryo.
With the release date about two weeks away, a new trailer for this work has been released to coincide with “Get Wild Day” on April 8th, which was officially recognized in 2023 after the original release date. While the ending theme “Get Wild Continual” by TM NETWORK plays, the streets of Reiwa Shinjuku Kabukicho, where the story is set, are projected, the familiar red Mini Cooper, a Shinjuku message board with XYZ written on it, and Suzuki’s character are shown. The video starts with Ryo’s “Please wait” line.
While investigating Kurumi (Hanamura Asuka), a famous cosplayer who has received a search request, Ryo gets involved in a mysterious incident and comes face to face with the death of his partner Makimura. Makimura’s younger sister Kaori asks Ryo why his brother died.
Meanwhile, it turns out that a mysterious drug called Angel Dust is involved in the violent incidents that broke out in Shinjuku around the same time, and that Kurumi holds the key to the drug. Ryo, who doesn’t want to involve Kaori in a dangerous incident, continues to avoid Kaori, but she and Kaori begin to work together to solve the case in order to uncover the truth behind Makimura’s death.
Additional cast members include Tetta Sugimoto as Akitaka Ito, the boss of Saeko Nogami, a Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department detective played by Kimura, and the chief of the First Investigative Division, and Mizusaki as Tsukino Seta, the president of a famous cosmetics brand who asks Kurumi to perform at a cosplay event. It has also been revealed that Takaya Sakoda and others will appear in the role of Ayame and Kunio Konno, President Seta’s secretary. It’s an adrenaline-filled video that will heighten expectations for this work even more with the cool side of Ryo, who is known for being “idiotic,” such as the raging gun battle scene where you don’t even have time to catch your breath.
The Netflix movie City Hunter'' depicts the story of how Ryo and Kaori met, and how the two became unique partners as depicted in the original manga and anime. The original author, Hojo, who was able to see the completed version of the story early, gave it his thumbs up, saying,
It was fun and really interesting.”
Hojo said, I think everyone's idea of
City Hunter” is the image of people running around in Shinjuku like this. Many people were thrilled that we were able to show that in reality. I think I’ll get it,” he commented. Furthermore, “Some fans of the original work and fans of the anime may think that the live-action version is a bit disappointing, but I would like them to try it out and watch it at least once. You might want to watch it. I’m sure it’ll be so interesting that you won’t be able to sleep. Please enjoy it,” he said, praising its level of perfection.
The live-action Netflix movie “City Hunter” will be distributed exclusively worldwide from April 25th. A blue carpet event and world premiere preview will be held on April 23rd, and applications are being accepted until April 14th.
