The Japanese version of the trailer, which features songs from the film being performed for the very first time, has been released!
In the previous film, Moana saved her home island after an epic adventure. Three years have passed since then, and Moana and the people of the island are spending their days venturing into the ocean, which was once forbidden. Moana, who has grown up a little since the birth of her younger sister, Simea, continues her adventure with the dream of finding “friends” in the far-off ocean, but she has not been able to find even one of them.
One day, a friend on the island discovered an old legend that said, “There is an island hidden in a terrible storm, and if you can reach it, the curse will be lifted and the people will be restored.” Guided by these words, Moana decides to set out on a new journey, but on this voyage there is a danger that she may never see her precious family again… Nevertheless, Moana sets out to a new destiny in order to find her “friends” waiting for her somewhere in this sea.
Supporting Moana on her adventure are familiar characters such as the chicken Heihei, the crybaby pig Pua, and Maui, the demigod who controls the wind and the sea. What awaits Moana and her friends on their beautiful and vast ocean adventure are sea creatures such as hordes of graceful dolphins and whale sharks wrapped in mysterious light, as well as the coconut pirates Kakamora, who are villains who get in the way of their journey but are somehow lovable, and a giant, eerie Something that tries to swallow the ship that awaits them as they make a big turn from the rough seas… What awaits them on this even larger-scale adventure? Will they be able to find the “friends” they have been looking for?
The Japanese trailer begins with a song from the film, released exclusively in Japan ahead of the rest of the world, in which Moana powerfully sings the lyrics, “We can finally return to our true selves.” The song conveys the joy of setting out on an adventure into the far-flung ocean that was once forbidden, and a strong sense of hope for meeting “friends” who await them beyond.
The music for this film is handled by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, two young and talented musicians who became the youngest winners of the 64th Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. The first film produced some great songs, such as “How Far I’ll Go,” but in this latest film, you can’t take your eyes off the majestic music they spin along with the story.
At the ultimate Disney fan event “D23 Expo 2024” held in Anaheim, USA on Saturday, the 10th (Japan time), the title of the song that will appear in the Japanese version of the trailer was announced as “We’re Back”, and Auli’i Cravalho, the voice actress of Moana, performed it live for the audience at the venue. As soon as Auli’i finished singing, the venue, which was packed with the largest audience in D23 history, erupted in thunderous cheers that shook the venue. Expectations are high for the main song and other songs that will be released in the future.
After the event, the voice actors were interviewed, and Auli’i Cravalho said, “I’m so happy that ‘Moana 2’ is being released, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it! This time, Pua will also go on an adventure with us! Please look forward to the theatrical release.” She revealed to fans looking forward to the release in Japan that the movie will go on an adventure with Pua, who did not go on an adventure in the previous film.
Dwayne Johnson, who plays Maui, said, “The happiest thing about playing Maui is that so many people have gotten to know Maui since the first movie was released. Wherever I go, people ask me to sing ‘You Only Live Here.'” He spoke of the joy of playing a character who is still loved all over the world 10 years after the release of the first movie.
