The album “Hello Kitty 50th Anniversary Presents My Bestie Voice Collection with Sanrio characters,” which includes many of the long-loved Sanrio character songs and other classic songs that have captivated a wide range of generations, as well as heartwarming readings, was released on Wednesday, June 26th.
The voice cast includes Miyu Irino, Wataru Urata, Takeo Otsuka, Kazuki Kato, Ryohei Kimura, Ryota Suzuki, Shinnosuke Tachibana, Toshiyuki Toyonaga, Shugo Nakamura, Shun Horie, Hikaru Makishima, and Shuto Mori (BUDDiiS) (in alphabetical order). The album also includes the songs “KAWAII FESTIVAL” and “Hello Kitty” sung by the entire cast.
In addition, a concert featuring Sanrio characters and the entire cast will be held on Sunday, November 24th!
To celebrate the release of the album, Animate Times will be delivering interviews with the cast for 12 consecutive days. This is the sixth installment, and this time we have Ryota Suzuki, who sings “Futari no Milky Way” (Little Twin Stars). He talked about his memories with Sanrio characters and his thoughts on this project.
–How did you feel when you heard about doing an album of Sanrio character song covers?
Ryota Suzuki (hereinafter, Suzuki): I didn’t know that each Sanrio character had a song, so I was very surprised when I heard about the character song cover album. I’m also very honored to be able to participate in the 50th anniversary year of “Hello Kitty”.
–Please tell us about your memories of Sanrio characters.
Suzuki: When I was a kid, I used a “Kero Kero Keroppi” fork and lunch box. I also bought a “Kuromi” stuffed toy at an arcade because I thought it was cute.
–Are there any characters other than your own that you’re interested in?
Suzuki: I saw “My Melody” because it was broadcast as a TV anime at the time.
Also, I was intrigued by “Bat Badtz-Maru” because he always has sleepy eyes, just like me.
–What do you think are similar to the characters you play?
Suzuki: When I was a child, I was just like Kiki from Little Twin Stars; I was curious and mischievous, but I also had a crybaby side like Lala, so my childhood was a lot like both Kiki and Lala (laughs).
According to a personality test I took recently, I seem to be the type of person who likes to make things, so I think I’d be closer to Kiki, who likes to invent things.
