At the event before the screening, voice actors Hiroshi Kamiya, Tomoyo Kurosawa, Mami Koyama, director Kenji Nakamura, and producer Koji Yamamoto appeared on stage. In addition to sharing various behind-the-scenes stories, there was also a corner where people could make Tanabata wishes, which created a lot of excitement.
This was an important day, as the finally completed film was unveiled to crowdfunding backers for the first time. In addition to the venue in Roppongi, Tokyo, live viewings were held in seven locations: Ikebukuro, Tokyo, Sapporo, Sendai, Nagoya, Osaka, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka.
The members appeared on stage in cool yukata robes. They smiled brightly as they received thunderous applause from the audience. Twin Engine representative and producer Yamamoto said with an emotional look on his face, “The release was delayed for a year, but it’s finally finished.” Director Nakamura, the creator of the series, expressed his gratitude to crowdfunding supporters, saying, “The circle of support has expanded, and many different people have come together in the business and creative fields. It has given us the opportunity to make the work bigger.” He also savored his joy, saying, “I’m really happy that everyone will be able to watch it.”
Kamiya, who played the main character, a mysterious medicine seller, said, “About a month ago, I saw the film when the director said, ‘We still have about 1,300 cuts to fix.’ The film has a total of 2,600 cuts. For a 90-minute animation, that’s a bit crazy.” He was amazed, saying, “I watched it three times in a row like I was possessed. The first time, I was overwhelmed by the visuals, and the second time, I tried to look at every detail, but before I knew it, time had passed. It was that dense.” He was fascinated by the attention to detail in the visuals. “The third time, I watched it while looking back at the script. That’s when I realized that the script was full of all kinds of answers. Working on this film made me realize that I still had a lot to learn when it came to reading the script,” he said, expressing his surprise at how well the script was done, and how it inspired him as a voice actor.
Director Nakamura said with a smile, “I’m very satisfied with Kamiya’s role as the medicine seller.” The medicine seller has a different expression before and after he transforms, but Director Nakamura didn’t give any specific instructions, saying, “I asked him, ‘I don’t have a particular image for the medicine seller after he transforms, but I want you to change it,'” but praised Kamiya’s acting, saying, “It was OK in one take.” Director Nakamura also explained the setting for the medicine seller character. When the TV series started, he said, “There are 64 demon-slaying swords in the story, and I created a setting that there are the same number of medicine sellers to match.”
大奥でキャリアアップを図る新人女中・アサ役の黒沢は、もともとシリーズの大ファンとのこと。本作においても好きなシーンが「いっぱいある」そうで、「今回は、薬売りさんのアクションシーンなど、カッコいいシーンがとても多くて。ビジュアル面での表現や、音楽とのハマり方もたまらない。この環境でご覧になるのがうらやましい」と今回映画館で観ることができる観客に向けてコメント。「後半のシーンは、すべての五感を溶けさせながら物語の中に入ってほしい。上も下も、わからなくなるような感覚もある」と特別な体験のできる映画だと熱っぽく語った。
また大奥の最高職位「御年寄」を務める歌山役の小山は、「アフレコはめちゃくちゃ大変でした！」と告白して、周囲も大笑い。「台本では、セリフが横書きされていた」と秘話を打ち明けた小山は、セリフやカット割りのスピードにも驚愕したという。「あまりにも速いので、台本のページをめくるのが忙しくて。（ページをめくる）ノイズが入ってしまうといけないので、全部セリフを書き出して。それをもとに挑戦しました。こんなことは初めてですが、頑張りました」と苦労を吐露していたが、中村監督は「小山さんに歌山役を受けていただけて、勝ったな！と思いました」と絶大なる信頼を明かした。
さらにこの日は、主題歌「Love Sick」を担当したアイナ・ジ・エンドからビデオメッセージが到着した。メッセージでは、完成作を観た感想として「色彩の展開の数の多さにびっくりしました。そしてなんと言っても、声優さんたちの命の声の吹き替えというのが、ものすごいなと思いました。画面で起こっていることなのに、目の前でささやかれているようなくらい、生々しい瞬間が多々あり、声優の方々のパワーを感じた」という感動の言葉と共に、「『凛として時雨』のTKさんが楽曲を作ってくださいました。とてもキーが高くて大変なんですが、もしよかったら一緒に歌ってもらえたらうれしいなと思います」という願いが込められていた。中村監督は「和風の作品なので、そういった音を意識していただいた。TKさんもたくさん質問をしてくれて、いろいろなやり取りをして。すごくいい曲が仕上がりました」と大満足の表情を浮かべていた。
また七夕当日とあって、情念や怨念が取り憑いたモノノ怪が登場する作品の内容にちなんで、「情念を抱くほど切望する願いごと」をそれぞれが短冊に書いて発表する一幕もあった。
神谷は「健康第一」とつづった短冊を披露し、「切実です。若干いま、鼻声です。お聞き苦しい鼻声（びせい）を響かせています。“声優殺すにゃ、刃物はいらぬ。風邪のひとつも引かせりゃいい”という感じ」と名フレーズを作り出して会場の笑いを誘った。
黒沢は「モノノ怪Tシャツがほしい」、小山は「すべての邪気を祓い、この星を平和な星に」と希望し、中村監督は「薬売りさんにたくさん会いたい！」とお願い。“実は薬売りはたくさんいる”という設定がありながらも、「まだ全然、会えていない。残りの人生をかけてなんとか…」とさらなる続編への意欲を見せていた。
七夕の日らしいイベントとなり、神谷は「劇場で観るにふさわしい映像に仕上がっています。まず1回目は圧倒的な映像に身を委ねて、時間を過ごしてください」と改めて完成作に胸を張り、小山も「アニメーションというよりも、アート」だと映像美をアピール。黒沢は「アサの人生にいろいろなものを託して演じました。受け取っていただきつつ、圧倒的な世界観を楽しんでください」と演じた役柄に愛情を傾けた。
最後にはみんなで、劇中のモブ女中のお面を持った観客と一緒にフォトセッション。大盛況のイベントは幕を閉じた。
