The intersecting feelings of Hikaru and Akira – A dress rehearsal report for the first move of the song picture scroll “Hikaru no Go” | Don’t miss the magnificent singing and dancing using swords by Shindo Hikaru, Fujiwara Sai, and Toya AkiraThe song picture scroll “Hikaru no Go” Jo no Ichimochi will open at Sunshine Theater from Friday, July 5th to Sunday, July 14th, 2024.

This work, which depicts the encounter between Hikaru Shindo, Sai Fujiwara, and Akira Toya, is full of highlights, including game scenes and singing and dancing parts using swords!

“Because I haven’t yet mastered the move of God.”

The story begins when the protagonist, Hikaru Shindo, and Akari Fujisaki find a Go board in a dimly lit storehouse, and the spirit of Fujiwara-no-Sai, a genius Go player from the Heian period, who resides within the board, enters Hikaru’s consciousness.

Hikaru is surprised by Sai’s appearance, who is only visible to him, but after learning about Sai’s past and his desire to play Go in pursuit of the divine move even after he no longer has a physical body, Hikaru decides to take Sai to the Go club.

Hikaru visits the Go club hoping to help Sai rest in peace, where he meets Akira Toya, a genius Go player and sixth grader the same age as Hikaru. With Sai’s guidance, Hikaru wins the game against Akira.

Furthermore, a Go board is projected onto a screen on stage, providing a realistic portrayal of the game in an easy-to-understand manner for the audience.

The video shows Akira unable to hide his nervousness during a game against Sai, who is testing his strength from a high position, and then the scene changes to a singing section with all the cast members. The opening lyrics and performance, “The journey begins, seeking God’s move,” build up the audience’s expectations and will have you excited.

This game sets the stage for Hikaru and Akira’s endless journey as rivals.

Akira ruminates on his game with Hikaru. When he tries to challenge Hikaru to a game again, Hikaru makes a derogatory remark about shogi players that angers Akira.

The heated rematch between Hikaru (or more accurately, Sai) and Akira was depicted with singing parts. The heat of the match between Hikaru & Sai and Akira was conveyed to the audience as Hikaru, Sai, and Akira performed sword fighting.

The scene then changes to a scene where Hikaru plays against Akira’s father, Toya Kyohiro, who is said to be “the closest to a godly move in modern times.” Toya Meijin and professional Go player Ogata Seiji are also interested in Hikaru’s sudden appearance.

During a game against the genius Go player, Master Toya, Hikaru had previously been playing Go with Sai’s guidance, but he begins to admire Master Toya’s brilliant fingertips as he places the talismans.

When he played a talisman in imitation of Master Toya, the stone began to shine. “Hikaru no Go” was born, and Hikaru’s talent was revealed.

Time passes and the story begins anew with Hikaru entering Hase Junior High School.

The Go club that Hikaru joined included Tsutsui Kimihiro, Akari, and, through Hikaru’s invitation, Mitani Yuki. The appearances of Kaga Tetsuo, a member of the shogi club who had previously aspired to become a Go player, and graduate student Waya Yoshitaka are also memorable.

Akira joins the Go club at Kaioh Junior High School, a prestigious school for Go, in order to play against Hikaru. He convinces the club’s advisor, Mr. Yoon, to let him play against Hikaru, but he is disappointed by Hikaru at the summer Go tournament.

The worthy opponent that Akira was looking for was not Hikaru, but Sai, who was next to Hikaru. Hikaru’s Go performance did not meet his expectations, and Akira cried as he played the game. Hikaru, seeing this, also realized the difference in ability between himself and Akira.

And what path will the two of them choose from now on?

Akira, who pursues his ideal Hikaru (Sai), and the real Hikaru…the unyielding feelings between the two characters will definitely warm your heart. Step by step, Hikaru’s growth as he gets closer to Akira, and Sai’s warm watching over him were also impressive.

Be sure to come see where Hikaru, Sai, and Akira are headed!
