Nintendo will broadcast “Nintendo Direct 2024.6.18” (commonly known as “Nindai”) on the official Nintendo YouTube channel from 11:00 p.m. on June 18th. Information on Nintendo Switch software will be announced for about 40 minutes, focusing on titles scheduled for release in the second half of 2024.
On June 18th, in an official Nintendo Direct announcement post from Nintendo Co., Ltd., Nintendo game producer Shigeru Miyamoto began by saying, “Tonight we will be broadcasting a Nintendo Direct, but before that I would like to make an announcement.” He went on to announce, “The release date in Japan for the new Super Mario animated movie has been set for April 24, 2026. We are working with the Illumination team to make it a fun movie, so please continue to look forward to it.”
Speaking of Super Mario movies, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” will be released on April 28, 2023. It was co-produced by Nintendo and Illumination, the studio behind the “Despicable Me” series and “SING,” and directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who teamed up for “Teen Titans GO! To the Movie.” The screenplay was written by Matthew Fogel, who also worked on “Minions” and “The Lego Movie 2.” It grossed $1,361,683,297 at the box office worldwide and 14.02 billion yen in Japan.
The new film, which will be released in Japan on April 24, 2026, is also a co-production between Illumination and Nintendo, just like The Super Mario Bros. Movie, so expectations are high.
“Nintendo Direct 2024.6.18” will be streamed on Nintendo’s official YouTube channel from 11:00 p.m. on June 18th.
