This work is a life-sized youth ensemble drama about “craftsmanship” brought to you by the up-and-coming video production team “Hurray!” and Tohru Hanada, who has worked on “Love Live!” and “A Place Further Than the Universe.”

His main tool for drawing is the free 3DCG software “Blender,” and his unique and delicate image creations have attracted attention.

In this article, we bring you an interview with Mariya Ise, who plays Orishige Yuu, an English teacher who is assigned to Asaya Kanata High School. Although she aspired to be a musician, she gave up on her musical path to become a teacher. We asked her about her impressions of Orishige Yuu, who is unable to give up her faint hope of becoming a musician, and the appeal of this work.

──First of all, please tell us what the appeal of the film “A Few Minutes of Cheer” is.

Ise Mariya as Orishige Yu (hereinafter referred to as Ise): The story is about a boy who finds something he is passionate about and pursues it head on, and a woman who has given up on her dreams and is in despair. The encounter has a big impact on both of their lives and helps them take a step forward.

Each character is charming, and the music is absolutely wonderful!

–After reading the script (or the screenplay) and then recording, what was your impression of the character you play, “Oriage Yuu”? Also, please let us know if your impression of her changed before and after recording.

Ise: If that is the “sun,” then I, Orishige Yuu, am the “moon.”

He aspires to be a musician, but is defeated, gives up on his dream, and now works as a teacher at a school. In stark contrast to the glittering Kanata, who is currently pursuing his dreams.

The gloomy atmosphere in the first half in particular made me feel heavy and miserable while acting. But I was gradually moved by Kanata’s honest eyes and passion, and in the end… I’m glad I got to see Yu’s smile.

–Please tell us the charm of the character Yu. Also, the singing scene (sung by Kei Sugawara) was fascinating, but was there anything you were conscious of in terms of the balance between Sugawara’s singing and the acting in the story?

Ise: I think that final decision was amazing and wonderful. I have no doubt that if he had never met Kanata, he would have continued to be a teacher.

In fact, after I was selected for the audition, I was surprised to hear that an artist with a voice similar to mine was selected.

So I felt a strong sense of responsibility to create a strong character for Orishige Yuu.

–What do you personally think about the relationship between Asaya Kanata, played by Hanae Natsuki, and Yu?

Ise: From Yu’s point of view, Kanata is a dazzling presence. Not long ago, I was able to move forward with hope and passion toward the dreams I wanted to achieve, just like Kanata, but now that I’ve decided to give up, I can’t hold on to my dreams forever.

But is there any meaning in living without dreams? Yuu, who lives as a teacher, is dead inside.

I think Kanata is the benefactor who reminded Yu of her passion.

──The theme of this work is “manufacturing,” and I felt that it had something in common with acting in terms of “expression.” Please tell us what you felt about the work, such as the feelings of the characters you sympathized with and any discoveries you made.

Ise: I can sympathize with all the characters. Kanata, Yuu, and Tonozaki-kun. I think Tonozaki-kun is the most mature.

I like Tonozaki’s line, where he expresses his sadness at being able to understand Yu’s feelings.

–Finally, I’m sure there are many highlights, so please tell us which is your favorite scene.

Ise: The scene where Kanata works hard, staying up all night trying to make a music video for Yuu’s song, through trial and error, is exciting to watch visually, and it’s so honest and beautiful that it brought tears to my eyes for some reason (laughs).

I also like the scene in the art room where Kanata notices that Tonozaki’s drawing practice notebooks go up to number 51.

But my favorite scene is when Tonozaki and Kanata ask each other, “Why do you think Orishige-sensei is a teacher?”
