“Jujutsu Kaisen” is a dark fantasy by Akutami Gege that has been serialized in “Weekly Shonen Jump” since 2018. The story begins when a powerful “cursed object” is unsealed and high school student Itadori Yuji steps into the world of curse-related battles. The 26 volumes of the comic have sold over 90 million copies in total, including digital versions. It
has also been made into an anime, with the first season airing from October 2020 to March 2021. The movie “Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie,” released in December 2021, was a huge hit, grossing 26.5 billion yen worldwide, sparking a major movement. The second season, which began airing in July 2023, was also well-received for its overwhelming quality. The third season, “Death Kaisen,” has also been decided to be produced.
The “Akutami Gege “Jujutsu Kaisen” Exhibition” will showcase the digital creative process of this work, with commentary from the author. How were the story, characters, and illustrations created, evolved, and elevated to new heights? One of the highlights of the exhibition is the generous display of the precious names and rough drafts that were created before they became the finished manuscript.
Ahead of the advance ticket lottery sale for the second half of the exhibition starting on June 24th, information has been received about audio guides recorded by Junichi Suwabe, who plays Ryomen Sukuna, and Jun’ichi Enoki, who plays Itadori Yuji in the anime. The audio guide, which costs 800 yen including tax, can be played on visitors’ smartphones, and Enoki and Suwabe will act as navigators, revealing the secrets of Akutami’s creation. Both Enoki and Suwabe have also provided comments.
Furthermore, the official catalogue for the exhibition “Akutami Gege’s ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ Exhibition” will be released at the venue. It will be a huge volume of 192 pages, packed with an overwhelming amount of information. Not only will it include the finished manuscripts, but also many of the first-ever names and drafts that will be exhibited at the venue, so fans won’t want to miss it. In addition, details of the “Hikarie Incident”, a collaboration with the venue, Shibuya Hikarie, have also been revealed. Photo spots will appear in various places within Shibuya Hikarie for different periods, and collaborative food and drink menus will be planned at 21 restaurants in the building.
