“Detective Conan”‘s Toru Amuro is No. 1! What about “Detective/Police Officer Characters You Want to Solve Cases Together With?” Others who made the list include “Lupin III”‘s Koichi Zenigata and “Kindaichi Shonen no Jikenbo”‘s Kengo Akechi.The digital comic distribution site Comic Seymour announced the results of a survey on “Ranking of detective and police officers you would like to solve cases with” in honor of Police Officer Day on June 17th. Of the 7,521 responses received, the winner was Amuro Toru from Detective Conan.

The top-ranked Amuro Toru is from the hit Detective Conan series, which also saw the release of the April movie Detective Conan: The Million Dollar Five-Pointed Star. He is an apprentice to the detective Mouri Kogoro and also works part-time at the Poirot Cafe located below his office. The man with three faces, a detective, Amuro Toru, a public security officer, Furuya Rei, and a member of the Black Organization, Bourbon, won 3,729 votes, or about half of the total.

The reasons given for choosing him included many comments about his looks, such as “because he’s good-looking” and “because he’s just cool.” In addition, there were also comments praising his talents as a public security officer and detective, such as “he has great insight,” “he has a wealth of knowledge,” and “I think he’d help us out even if we were in a tight spot.”

Coming in second is Zenigata Koichi, a police inspector from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department who appears in Lupin the Third and is fondly known as “Zenigata Inspector” or “Zenigata’s Dad,” and who is devoted to arresting Lupin the Third.

Reasons for choosing him include “because I can relate to him” and “because he’s kind-hearted and likable,” making it clear that many readers are attracted to his warm personality. There were also many opinions such as “I would like to travel around the world with Lupin in order to arrest him and investigate all kinds of cases.”

Coming in third is Akechi Kengo, a career police inspector from the Tokyo University who works in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division, from “The Kindaichi Case Files.”

Comments on his selection included “he’s harsh and sarcastic, but also smart and always calm,” and “he seems like he’ll solve cases quickly,” in reference to how he brilliantly solves cases in the story. Other comments included “he’s an intelligent character who wears glasses, so I can support him,” and “he’s good looking, smart, and beautiful!” in reference to his looks and high specs.

Other names on the list of “detective/police officer characters you would like to solve cases with” were, in alphabetical order of the titles of the works, Ikuo Ryuzaki from “Uroboros – It is I who will judge the police”, Daigo Agawa from “Gannibal”, Noaki Izumi from “Mobile Police Patlabor”, Toshio Utsumi from “Cat’s Eye”, Saki Asamiya from “Sukeban Deka”, Uozumi from “Smiley”, Seiji Minamoto from “Hakozume: Police Box Women’s Counterattack”, and Tsuyoshi Maki from “Secret – Top Secret”.

Votes were collected for detective and police officers characters who are essential to famous scenes from nationally popular works that have also been made into movies and TV dramas.
