Matsumoto Rika, Inoue Kikuko, Morikubo Shoutarou, Takanashi Marika, and Hayama Shota appeared at the event and livened up the venue.
To commemorate the release of “The Garbage Ghost Has Arrived,” a special stage greeting was held today, October 5th (Sat) at United Cinema Toyosu, featuring five guests: Matsumoto Rika, who plays the main character Max; Inoue Kikuko, who plays Max’s mother Sophia; Morikubo Shoutarou, who plays the unscrupulous businessman Hammer; Takanashi Marika, who plays Mossy, a member of the Olhee family who loves trash; and Hayama Shota, who plays Messy.
The Japanese cast took to the stage in costumes that incorporated green items into their outfits, in keeping with the skin color of the garbage ghost Olhee. Matsumoto revealed that she had struggled with her costumes, but showed confidence by saying, “Only one person can look good in green – Matsumoto Rika or Kappa!”, which excited the audience. Furthermore, in response to the applause given to Matsumoto, she asked the fans at the venue for “more.” With the excitement in the venue at its peak and the audience united, she reflected on the dubbing, saying, “I had so much fun acting on set!”
Inoue, who played Max’s mother Sophia, started off with the customary greeting, “I’m Kikuko Inoue, 17 years old,” and was met with a collective “Hey, hey” from the rest of the cast, showing their great teamwork. She continued, “I’m with my favorite Rika, so I’ll try not to laugh too much,” expressing her enthusiasm.
Morikubo, who played the role of Hammer, the president of Hammer Construction, a company that plans to build a resort spa at a waste treatment plant, greeted the audience immersed in his role, saying, “Thank you very much for coming to United Cinema Toyosu today, a venue built by our company. Please enjoy yourself until the very end!” and quickly captivated the audience.
Takano Marika, who played Mossy, a member of the Olhey family who loves trash, greeted the audience with a cute “I love smelly socks! I’m Takano Marika, the Mossy member.” She immediately asked a question of Hayama, who played Messy, also of the Olhey family, “And then?” Takano looked quite surprised at the sudden request, but she greeted the audience as if she was in character. “Messy and Mossy are twins,” she said, showing the perfect twin-like exchange.
Moving on to a Q&A session, Matsumoto said that he was offered the role of Max by the sound director because he thought he was the perfect fit for the role. He continued, “I put in a lot of ad-libs. You may have noticed, but there are parts where I’m mumbling!” he asked the audience, to which Hayama, raising her hand on behalf of the audience, answered, “It’s the part where I’m practicing the cello!” Matsumoto also said, “We reshot that scene about three times and there were parts where I was able to say it properly, but the sound director said, ‘This is more realistic,’ and that’s why it was used. It’s because I actually felt like Max that I messed up like that. I think you’ll enjoy those parts even more the next time you watch it,” but also complained to the sound director, saying, “But I still think it’s terrible!”
Inoue gently reprimanded him, saying, “It’s not that bad,” but confessed, “I love the part where he puts his voice and body on the line to make everyone laugh, with lots of ad-libs.” Matsumoto then revealed, “I was particular about the last line, and it was a different word, but I suggested the word ‘family’ and they used it,” and the audience couldn’t help but listen in rapt attention to the behind-the-scenes story.
Inoue’s character Sophia is a strict mother who is very strict, but she also “raised Max with an honest and kind heart, so I didn’t think she was a bad mother. I played her with the idea that she was a mixture of love and strictness.” She explained how she approached the role. She added, “In normal mother roles, I’m often the one who watches over the child, but this time the story didn’t go according to theory, so I was surprised.” Takano said with a smile, “I was very happy that (Sofia) became the bridge that connected humans and Orhi.”
森久保は「個人的に他の作品では青年役が多いので、ハンマーのような悪役を演じることが実はあまりなかったんです。これから声優人生の中でどんどんとこういったキャラクターにも挑戦したいと思える良いきっかけになる役で、全身全霊で演じました」と長いキャリアの中でも新鮮な役柄への挑戦だったことを明かしました。松本は「本当にぴったりでしたね！」と会場の拍手を誘い、「ハンマーのような役を演じさせたら右に出るものはいないんじゃないかな」と語りました。
高野は、「改めて見返してみると、自分の台詞が、なんて言っているかわからない」と暴露。「どういうことなの！？教えて！？」と困惑気味の松本に対して、同じくオルヒーを演じた葉山も高野の気持ちが理解できるよう。例えば、「さかなのオナラ」のような不思議な組み合わせのオルヒー語は普段耳にしたり口にしたりしない言葉のため、アニメーションの中で早口で出てくるとなんて言っているかわからなくなってしまうのだとか。「オルヒー語を解読できると、オルヒーになったつもりになれるんじゃないかと思います」とオルヒー役を演じた高野らしい楽しみ方を披露しました。
続いて葉山にとっては「イボイボバイバイー！」というオルヒー語が印象的だったそうで「オルヒーパパは朝起きたと同時にオルヒー語を話していてすごい」と声優として演じるうえでの面白さを語りました。また、「ラストシーンではオルヒーたちの楽しい世界観が詰まっているので、細かく観て欲しいです！」と注目ポイントを語りました。
更に、ゴミが題材の作品ということで、普段エコのために気をつけていることを問われると、高野の「お上がり・お下がりをしていて、祖母の洋服を着ている」などキャストからの回答が続き、締めを任された松本は「卵のパックを捨てずに取っておいて、絵を描く時に絵の具のパレットにしている」のだとか。素敵な回答に思わず井上からも「良いこと言った！」と拍手が送られると、「いつも言ってないみたいじゃん！」と仲の良い掛け合いを見せます。
また、オルヒーファミリーに負けない我が家のエピソードを求められると、キャストの注目を一斉に浴びたのは井上。松本に「家族はみんな魚で自分のことはマンボウだと思っている」とエピソードを暴露されて井上は思わずタジタジに。井上目線では「（海の中でじっとしてなさそうだから）松本はトビウオ」に見えるというエピソードから、他の3人はどんな魚に見えるのかという話に及び、森久保は「カツオ」、葉山は「ヒラメ」高野は「エンジェルフィッシュ」に決まりました。井上の（イベントの取材に集まった記者たちに対し）「記事に書きづらいですよね」と笑う姿に誘われうように、会場も笑顔に包まれました。
楽しい時間もあっという間に過ぎ、最後の挨拶に。葉山は「本当に楽しい時間をありがとうございました。すごく迫力とメッセージ性のある映画で絵本が原作なのですが、大人の心にも響くストーリーになっています。悩んでいる時に観ていただくと、見た目や噂に囚われない考え方やオルヒーたちの姿にグッとくる瞬間がたくさんありますので、ご家族や友人と楽しんでいただきたいです」と思いを込めました。
高野は「今までの声優人生の中で一番でセリフが難しいなと思ったんです。サカナのオナラなどのオルヒー語を通じて、相手にどういう風に伝わるのか・ちゃんと聞こえているのかという声優の仕事を見つめ直し、精進していかないといけないなと思いました。家族と一緒に楽しめる作品ですので、みんなで楽しんでいただけたらと思います！」と明るく締めくくりました。
森久保は「児童文学ですが、大人が観ても考えないといけない部分がたくさんある作品です。暮らす中でどうしても出てしまうゴミを受け止めてくれるオルヒーは、まるで地球のような存在なのかなと台本を読んでいて思うようになりました。お子さんたちには純粋にこの世界を楽しんでいただき、一緒に見る我々大人は未来に繋げるというきっかけになる作品になったらと思って今回参加しました。またぜひよろしかったら、そしてまだご覧になっていない皆さんは劇場に足を運んでいただきたいと思います」と願いを込めました。
井上は「最初は“ゴミおばけ”と聞いて不思議に思いましたが、映画の中で描かれていることが本当に大切なことで、色々な気づきがある作品だなと思いました。皆さんの心に訴えかけるドキドキとワクワクが詰まった作品ですので、これからも多くの方に観ていただきたいと思います」と優しく会場に語りかけました。
松本は「本作が人のことを見て見ぬふりをするんじゃなく、正面から向き合っていくきっかけになったらと思います。私が演じたマックスは自分のためというよりは、誰かのために一生懸命頑張ったと思うんです。誰かに何か起きた時には手を差し伸べられたりアドバイスができたりすることも大事だということを、本作を通じて感じられると思います。そんな映画に参加させていただけて、すごく光栄で感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。今日は本当にありがとうございました」と熱い想いで締めくくった。
