The “Urusei Yatsura” exhibition will open on Wednesday, October 2nd! Official supporter Shinya Arino and Sumire Uesaka, who plays Lum, will talk about the exhibition’s appeal and highlights at the opening ceremony! The Urusei Yatsura TV anime exhibition opened on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

The story concept of this exhibition is “Girl Hunt with Ataru!!” The exhibition introduces the charm of the TV anime “Urusei Yatsura”, which is a mix of nostalgia and newness of the Showa and Reiwa eras, with a focus on introducing the unique characters. In addition to valuable setting materials from the TV anime, a three-dimensional figure of Lum is also on display. It will be nostalgic for fans of the past, and the Z generation will be able to enjoy the new Reiwa retro venue production.

At the opening ceremony on the eve of the exhibition (10/1), Shinya Arino of the comedy duo “Yoiko”, who has been appointed as the official supporter of the exhibition, and Sumire Uesaka, the voice actress of the heroine Lum in the TV anime “Urusei Yatsura”, attended and talked about the appeal and highlights of the exhibition.

The official supporters of this exhibition are comedian Shinya Arino of the comedy duo “Yoiko” and voice actress Sumire Uesaka, who plays Lum.

Arino: It was really interesting. There is a history of “Urusei Yatsura” right after you enter, and Ataru is introduced as “a high school student who loves women like no other.” I thought it was hard to say that nowadays, and I thought I’d like to have a carnivorous man like that, so I started watching it. The sound of the black telephone rings, and if you are over 40, you start off with a nostalgic sound, so it’s really immersive. It’s also interesting to be able to read the setting materials and behind-the-scenes stories of the staff.

Uesaka: It’s a truly gorgeous exhibit. In the setting materials, you can see expressions that viewers don’t get to see, the directors’ particular points, and comments from the cast. And the best part is that as you walk through the exhibit, a life-sized Lum greets you. She’s so cute it’s heart-stopping, and I can’t wait for lots of people to see it.

Arino: It’s interesting that there are a lot of behind-the-scenes stories from the staff written in the character settings. For example, Oyuki has an ice head, so they write about how difficult it was to express his hardness without moving him, and it’s interesting to see how that was.

Uesaka: The rooms for each character are fun. There is a lot of information. When you think of “Urusei Yatsura,” you think of the onomatopoeia sounds like “chudon” and “bari bari bari,” which are scattered throughout the exhibition. In the anime, the voice actors do these sounds, but in this exhibition, you can see the onomatopoeia.

Arino: I watched it when I was in elementary school. They said they were going to remake it, so I thought, “What are they going to do?” I came to see it wondering what would happen if Lum, who has a smartphone, were to do an electric shock, but the phone was still the same as it was in the past, so I was glad to be able to enjoy the Showa era. On the other hand, the production is attractive in that it incorporates the newness of the Reiwa era, such as beautiful pictures and neon tubes.

Uesaka: When recording was about to begin, I met Takahashi-sensei at a dinner party. I was so nervous that I drank about a bottle and a half of wine, thinking that I would be able to speak well if I got drunk, but no matter how much I drank, I remained nervous.

However, my teacher was kind and said to me, “I’m looking forward to Urusei Yatsura,” so I thought, “Okay! I’ll do my best!”

Arino: I want to be shocked by electricity! I want to be turned into bones! I want to know how tingly it feels.

Uesaka: The food in Lum’s home country is supposed to be extremely spicy, so I’d like to try it. When Ataru eats it, his mouth becomes like cod roe, so I’d like to know how spicy it is.

Arino: It’s the “Lam Wireless Mobile Charger.” It has a blue light that turns on and shines. You can have Lum charge it for you.

The other one is a stadium jumper. It’s green, which is Lum-chan-like, and the tag says Lum, so it’s cute.

Uesaka: This is the “Lam Headband” that lets you become Lum-chan. It’s so cute. Halloween is coming up, so I hope everyone will wear it and have fun.

The menu item of the collaboration cafe is “Lam and Ataru’s Tag French Toast”. This is a reproduction of a very touching scene.

It’s a menu that you should try while remembering your memories of “Boy Meets Girl”.

Arino: It’s an exhibition that will cheer you up. You can also see the behind-the-scenes of the TV anime, so please look forward to it.

Uesaka: This exhibition is packed with the charm of the “Urusei Yatsura” TV anime series. I hope many people will come and see it.
