A TV anime series began airing in 2014, and finally a movie version, “Haikyu!! The Movie: Battle at the Dump,” was released, depicting one of the most popular episodes from the original work, “Karasuno High School vs. Nekoma High School.”
This year, the beloved series “Haikyu!!” celebrates its 10th anniversary since its TV anime broadcast began. To commemorate this, the “Haikyu!! 10th Anniversary -Connecting- Project” will begin in April 2024.
The project, which has the theme of “connecting,” will feature various events throughout the year, including exhibitions, with a finale event planned for 2025.
To coincide with this 10th anniversary project, Animate Times is conducting a relay interview that connects the cast members! In this article, we asked Nakamura Yuichi, who plays Kuroo Tetsuro, about his feelings and memories now that it’s been 10 years.
–How do you feel about reaching your 10th anniversary? Also, please give a message to all the fans who have supported you for the past 10 years.
Nakamura Yuichi (voice of Kuroo Tetsuro) (hereafter, Nakamura): When I think about it, it feels like it’s gone by so quickly. The series was resolved with a movie version as a culmination, and it was a huge hit… I’m happy that the results of everyone’s support have continued for 10 years.
–You’ve depicted a lot of matches over the past 10 years, but which one would you say is your favorite?
Nakamura: Do you think there are any others besides this movie? At our place (Nekoma)!!!
It was a fun film because I really felt like I gave it my all as Kuroo.
— Haikyu!! is full of heart-wrenching quotes, famous lines, and famous scenes, but looking back, are there any lines or scenes that were particularly memorable?
Nakamura: I was worried until the very end about how to handle the “We are blood” part.
After hearing explanations from the directors on set, the image suddenly came into my head.
— I think all the schools that appear in “Haikyu!!” are unique and attractive. Of all the schools that have appeared so far, which one would you like to play against?
Nakamura: I played a little volleyball in class when I was a student, but I was hopeless at ball games, so it was tough. I would have hurt my finger or broken a bone! So I won’t be playing anymore!
— In keeping with the theme of the “Haikyu!!” 10th Anniversary Project, we are asking questions in a relay format. Kaito Ishikawa is the first to ask a question to Nakamura. “Regarding the speech during the Nekoma huddle, was there any difference in the feelings you had when you said it in the anime series and when you said it in the movie version?”
Nakamura: Whether we win or lose, this will be the last time we can fight Karasuno, so with that in mind, we’ve made the movie version even more exciting than usual! (laughs)
