A report on the advance screening and talk event for episodes 1 and 2 of “Maou 2099” featuring Satoshi Hino, Miku Ito, and Kana Hishikawa! Makina starts to get weirder from episode 2 onwards! The anime “Maou 2099” is based on a light novel by Daigo Murasaki, currently being published by Fujimi Fantasia Bunko. It tells the story of Beltor, a legendary demon king who was supposed to have been destroyed 500 years ago, but is resurrected in Shinjuku, a future city that has achieved the ultimate in development.

With the broadcast date of October 12, 2024 approaching, a preview screening of episodes 1 and 2, as well as a talk event featuring the three main cast members – Hino Satoshi, Ito Miku, and Hishikawa Kana – was held at United Cinema Toyosu in Tokyo.

Here we will report on the talk event.

Satoshi Hino (voice of Berthold Velvet Berschwald),

Miku Ito (voice of Makina Solege),

Kana Hishikawa (voice of Takahashi)

As the event began and the three cast members took the stage, Hino immediately greeted the audience with, “Good evening, Mortal!!”

Before the event, attendees were given fans with the words “Good evening, Mortal” written on them, and just before the cast members were to take to the stage, a secret (?) meeting was held in which the entire audience waved their fans and asked for a “Good evening, Mortal” greeting. Hino was responding to that request, but it seems he could hear everything that was going on at the meeting, and he said, “It warmed my heart,” revealing how he felt as he waited and listened to the exchange.

This talk event took place after the advance screening of episodes 1 and 2, and when the audience was asked questions about the production, they responded with thunderous applause. The cast also seemed very satisfied with the end result, and they got excited talking about the beauty of the visuals and the opening scene of episode 1.

Meanwhile, Hishikawa, who calls herself a “Kyusujo” or “Kyusu-jin” (Kyusunchu), a former vassal of Berthol and a supporter of Marcus, one of the Six Demon Lords, got into some very passionate Marcus talk right from the get-go. It was also revealed that at the recording site, Hishikawa had been asking various cast members “Do you like Marcus?”, but most of the responses were along the lines of “I don’t particularly dislike him,” and it seems she has yet to find a fellow “Kyusujo” (Kyusu woman).

At one point, she asked the audience if there were any “Kyuusu women” or “Kyuusu people,” but unfortunately not many people raised their hands. However, she still managed to interpret it in a positive way, saying, “Kyuusu people are something you keep to yourself. I’m sure I think everyone in the cinema is a ‘Kyuusu person,'” drawing laughter from the audience.

Kinohara, who plays Marcus’ secretary, is also popular among the cast, and both Ito and Hino agreed that the contrast between his cool and handsome demeanor and his cuteness was impressive. In one scene where he and Berthol exchange words, the two’s lack of compatibility and their unique pacing were surreal and amusing.

Continuing on the topic of the second episode, Ito commented, “In the first episode, I got the impression that she was a very reliable person, but from the second episode onwards, she starts to become a little stranger (laughs). She is overflowing with love for Berthol-sama, and her face becomes all soft.” She commented that even during recording, there were many retakes, with the actress saying, “Make her even more disgusting!”

Furthermore, Hishigawa reflected on the recording, saying, “I heard a voice I’d never heard before from Ito-san. I really liked her voice, which was so sludgy and melted that I’m sure most of you had never heard it before either.”

Regarding Belthall, who struggles with the gap between the world he has lived in up until now and Shinjuku, Hishikawa said, “I love how confident he is. I don’t really know what it is, but I think it’s cute that he thinks, ‘I’m sure I can do it.'” Hino, who plays Belthall, said, “He’s very earnest,” and revealed that, because of the interesting sound of the word “I,” a change was made to the line at the end of the recording to add “I.”
