Live-Action Adaptation of Masakazu Katsura’s “Wingman” Announced: Makino Fujioka and Konatsu Kato to Star

TV Tokyo is set to broadcast the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Masakazu Katsura’s classic manga “Wingman”, starting Tuesday, October 22, 2024. This exciting new series will also be available exclusively on DMM TV, with the first episode streaming one week earlier on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

Cast and Crew

Makino Fujioka has been cast in the lead role of Hirono Kenta, a high school sophomore with a passion for special effects heroes. Fujioka, known for his roles in popular dramas such as “Koi ni Mudaguchi” and “Cool Doji Danshi”, is taking on his first lead role in a terrestrial drama series. Joining him is Konatsu Kato as the heroine Aoi. Kato, who made her TV drama debut in 2018, has since appeared in notable series including “The 13 Lords of the Kamakura” and “Nagatan to Ao to – Ichika no Ryori-cho”.

Koichi Sakamoto, renowned for his work on special effects action films, will direct the series. His impressive resume includes directing “Kamen Rider Fourze”, “Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger”, and “Ultraman Ginga S”.

The opening theme for the series will be “chang[e]” by the popular band BLUE ENCOUNT. This energetic track promises to enhance the show’s dynamic visual style.

Plot Overview

Hirono Kenta, a high school sophomore and special effects hero enthusiast, creates his own hero persona, Wingman, with the help of his friends. After acquiring the Dream Note, Kenta gains the ability to transform into Wingman for five minutes, embarking on an adventure that brings his fantasies to life.

The mysterious girl Aoi arrives from another dimension to Earth with the mission to destroy her father’s invention, the Dream Note, and rescue her father imprisoned in her home world during a war.
