I want to express Homura Ponto’s “way of life” and “growth” over the course of a year — Interview with Miyazawa Yu, who plays Bun Violet/Homura Ponto in “Bakujo Sentai Bunbunger” | “I think there must be a reason for me to play a hero at this timing””Bakujo Sentai Bunbunger,” which has been well-received since its broadcast in March 2024, is taking a new turn! In episode 16, Bun Violet/Homura Ponto appears as a new warrior, stirring up the story.

Anime / Manga

Ponto is a troubleshooter and fixer who tries to resolve all kinds of disputes, but he has a troublesome personality and enjoys calling complicated situations “chaos.” He left Earth over 10 years ago due to a certain incident and has been through many battles in space with his partner, Bun Diesel (voiced by Natsuki Hanae)…

Animate Times conducted an interview with Miyazawa Yu, who plays Bun Violet/Homura Sento! He talked about his enthusiasm for playing the hero, as well as the character of the mysterious new warrior and what to look out for in the future.

–I took a photo of you before the interview, and your outfit looks really cool.

Miyazawa Yu, voice of Bun Violet/Homura Ponto (hereafter, Miyazawa): When I joined the production, I had three costume fittings. It’s really easy to wear, and they paid attention to the small details. Above all, I’m glad that everyone came up with the visual of Homura Ponto, and I really like it.

–I think it’s a perfect fit for the image of Ponto, who spans space.

Miyazawa: The slightly sluggish form is similar to Ponto. I myself am enjoying acting in this costume. During the costume fitting, Miu-chan (Suzuki Miu) and Riyuu (Saito Riyuu) came over with smiles on their faces and said, “The violet costume is cool!” (laughs).

–It’s a bit like Mirai and Jo (laughs).

Miyazawa: Osamu Souma has a calm side, but Yuuyo Iuchi and Yuki Hayama are also fresh. I joined the set later, but they treated me without discrimination. I feel like I’m working with such wonderful and kind cast members.

— (At the time of the interview) your appearance has not yet been announced, but have you informed your family?

Miyazawa: I haven’t told my family yet, so I think they’ll be surprised when it’s announced. However, during a casual conversation I asked them, “Which superhero show did you go to when you were a kid?” so they might know.

-So you went to a hero show.

Miyazawa: I don’t remember exactly, but I remember going to see the hero shows “Gaoranger” and “Hurricaneger.” The admiration for heroes at that time remained even after I became an adult. As I auditioned for the Super Sentai series, my passion and feelings for heroes grew stronger day by day.

I’ve auditioned for special effects productions more than 10 times since I was 19 years old, but this was the first time I passed, so I had a strong desire to “interpret the appeal of the Super Sentai series in my own way.”

–While we’re at it, I’d also like to ask you about the appeal of “Bunbunja” as you see it.

Miyazawa: Personally, when I saw the fight against Mad Rex in episode 9 (Bakuage 9), I felt, “This is what Super Sentai is all about.” The best part of the series is the camaraderie of facing difficulties that no one can overcome alone.

In a way, the staff and cast are also colleagues who create a single work. As with the costumes, I think that the various creative aspects of all the cast and staff come together to create the work “Bunbunja.”
