Anime / Manga

Ella (Lily James) lives in a mansion in the woods with her peddler father and kind mother. It seemed that her happy days would continue, but suddenly her mother died of illness. Still, with the promise she made to her mother that she would never forget her courage and kindness, she grows into a beautiful girl.

One day, Ella’s father remarries, and her proud mother (Cate Blanchett) and sisters (Sophie McShera, Holliday Grainger) arrive at Ella’s house. Her kind father also dies shortly thereafter, and her mother banishes Ella to her attic and begins to treat her like a servant.

Ella sleeps in front of the fireplace to beat the cold and works with ashes on her face, and her mothers tease her by calling her “Ella covered in ashes = Cinderella.” Ella has always kept her promise to her mother, but she can’t stand the treatment of the three and finally runs away from her house.

In the forest, Ella meets Kit (Richard Madden), a cheerful young man. Ella and Kit are attracted to each other, but Kit is actually a prince. He is encouraged by his father, the king (Derek Jacobi), who is about to die, to have a political marriage…
