Here’s a detailed look at what was revealed about the film’s production, setting, characters, and casting.

Behind-the-Scenes Revelations

Director Tatsuyuki Nagai shared that “Touch.” marks a departure from the Chichibu setting of their previous works, moving the backdrop to Tokyo’s Takadanobaba. He noted, “We decided to shift the setting away from Chichibu for this project. The new location reflects our personal journey from the countryside to Tokyo, and we aimed to create a fresh narrative that resonates with our experiences.”

Mari Okada, known for her contributions to “Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day,” described her involvement with the film’s script as a return to the roots of storytelling. She said, “Seeing the final dubbing after so long felt like reuniting with an old friend. I’m thrilled to share this story with everyone soon.”

Masayoshi Tanaka discussed his experience designing the film’s mysterious creature, “Fureru.” He elaborated, “Designing Fureru was a unique challenge. It was my first time being deeply involved in animating a non-human character, and I spent considerable time perfecting its final form and movement.”

Casting Choices and Character Insights

The film centers around three main characters: Aki Onoda, Ryo Sobue, and Yuta Inohara. The casting choices were made through auditions, with Ren Nagase, Ryuta Bando, and Kentaro Maeda selected for these pivotal roles. Director Nagai and screenwriter Okada explained the casting process, emphasizing how these actors’ performances brought the characters to life.

Nagai expressed his relief and satisfaction with the completed film, while Tanaka highlighted his confidence in the project’s quality. “With each stage of ‘Touch.’ that we completed, I felt the film’s presence grow. I hope viewers will agree that we’ve created something special.”
