A TV anime series began airing in 2014, and finally a movie version, “Haikyu!! The Movie: Battle at the Dump,” was released, depicting one of the most popular episodes from the original work, “Karasuno High School vs. Nekoma High School.”
This year, the beloved series “Haikyu!!” celebrates its 10th anniversary since its TV anime broadcast began. To commemorate this, the “Haikyu!! 10th Anniversary -Connecting- Project” will begin in April 2024.
The project, which has the theme of “connecting,” will feature various events throughout the year, including exhibitions, with a finale event planned for 2025.
To coincide with this 10th anniversary project, Animate Times is conducting a relay interview that connects cast members! In this article, we asked Kaito Ishikawa, who plays Tobio Kageyama, about his thoughts and memories now that it’s been 10 years.
–How do you feel about reaching your 10th anniversary? Also, please give a message to all the fans who have supported you for the past 10 years.
Ishikawa Kaito (voice of Kageyama Tobio) (hereinafter, Ishikawa): I am truly honored to have reached our 10th anniversary thanks to the passionate support and love of all our fans.
It really moves me to think that we’ve come this far while sharing with everyone the greatness of the work “Haikyu!!”.
We have had so many memories together over the past 10 years, and we look forward to continuing to make even more memories together in the future.
–You’ve depicted a lot of matches over the past 10 years, but which one would you say is your favorite?
Ishikawa: I still have fond memories of the match against Aoba Johsai High School at the Inter-High School Championships.
Karasuno had grown and honed their skills through practice and matches up until that point, and had seized victory, but Seijoh stood in their way as an overwhelmingly strong team, and it was an impressive sight.
Also, looking back now, I can see that this was where Kageyama’s career as a setter began, so it has left a lasting impression on me.
— Haikyu!! is full of heart-wrenching quotes, famous lines, and famous scenes, but looking back, are there any lines or scenes that were particularly memorable?
Ishikawa: The scene of “unfun time” at Jozenji High School left a strong impression on me.
To play, you first need a playground.
Playing and not thinking are not the same thing.
You can only play freely if you have the skills to execute it.
These words were not spoken by the players but by the coach and manager, but they really struck me, just like they did the players. Even now, I try to remember them to think about how I can have fun.
— I think all the schools that appear in “Haikyu!!” are unique and attractive. Of all the schools that have appeared so far, which one would you like to play against?
Ishikawa: I would like to play against Shiratorizawa Academy.
Of course I want to see the overwhelming talent of Ushijima with my own eyes, but I’m also looking forward to being on edge with Tendo’s naughty blocks.
His provocations and choice of words really hit home, and I thought they were amazing even while we were recording, so I’m curious to see what would happen to me if I were to face him in real life.
— In line with the theme of the “Haikyu!!” 10th Anniversary -Connecting- Project, we would like to ask Nakamura Yuichi one question.
石川：音駒の円陣での口上ですが、アニメシリーズで発した時と劇場版で発する時では心情の違いはありましたか？
4月6日は、10年前にアニメ第1期初回が放送された記念すべき日。その10年後の本日2024年4月6日、テーマとして「繋ぐ」を掲げ、10年の歴史を繋ぎ、ファンの皆さまとアニメ「ハイキュー!!」を繋ぐ、アニバーサリープロジェクトがスタート！
