Asaki Yukawa, Hinaki Yano, Mari Hino, and Sayumi Suzushiro appeared on stage to greet the audience. They talked about the appeal of the opening and ending theme songs, and the attention to detail they pay when playing the characters.
The advance screening of the first episode began with Yukawa, who played the main character, Hojo Tokiyuki, inviting members of the Towaka-tai as the MC.
On this day, Hino and Suzuyo, who appeared at the advance screening, were asked about their impressions of the first episode. Suzuyo excitedly said, “Wasn’t it amazing? I’ve been looking forward to it since the dubbing, but the vividness of the colors and the production were so powerful that I almost forgot to blink.” She praised it highly and said, “I want it to be shown every week in the theater!” The audience applauded again. Hino revealed that she cried after watching the main story, saying, “I didn’t know the color of Tokiyuki’s clothes before going to war were like this! I was moved by how vivid, glossy and beautiful they were.” Yano spoke strongly, saying, “I think the sound and other things were conveyed even more. The background music was really good, and I’m really jealous of everyone who was able to watch it in a better environment!” There was also a scene where Yukawa led the members, saying, “Let’s all watch it on the biggest screen we can!”
The conversation turned to the opening and ending themes, with Suzuyo revealing that she was “a little surprised” about the ending theme, and saying, “When I saw the finished film, I thought it really had that ‘Nigewaka’ feel to it, so I can’t wait to see it (after watching the opening and ending videos).” Yuikawa also talked about what it was like backstage, saying, “It feels like we’re about to start singing, but even in the waiting room, when we’re all four together, we’re already singing. It’s a song that makes you want to dance, so I hope you’ll look forward to it.”
The conversation turned to the original work, with Suzuyo reflecting on her school days, saying, “I wasn’t very good at studying history,” and adding, “I had the impression that history was difficult to understand, but when I encountered ‘Nigewaka,’ my impression of historical works changed 180 degrees; it was so interesting. The historical background is based on historical facts, so I wish I had encountered this work sooner.” Yano commented, “The older man characters are easy to understand and remember,” and Hino also excitedly commented, “Do you ever wonder what will happen to this guy here? Every episode ends in a way that makes you really curious to see what will happen next.”
The dubbing has already been completed, and the four actors who played the Towakutou spoke about the attention to detail and the parts they paid attention to when playing each character. Suzuyo reflected on the role of Ayako, saying, “I had the impression that I was asked to go for a wider range of roles from the time of the audition,” and that she was conscious of the balance of the comedy elements she brought out. “Ayako is innocent, but when she’s fighting, she’s really cool, and I tried to be conscious of the fact that she’s reliable, not just empty and energetic, so that she wouldn’t come off as an idiot,” she said. Hino, who played Kojiro, revealed that it was difficult to play the role, saying, “Kojiro has a good balance of various elements. He’s cool, smart, and cool, but he also has a childlike side. I had a hard time grasping the character, and I’m not sure if I’ve fully grasped it even now, but I feel like I carefully layered my heart into the character. I’m nervous and excited to see how everyone will react to it.” Yano pointed out the difficulties of playing a taciturn character, saying, “Shizuku has a cute appearance, so we were guided by the goal of making her cute, but as someone who serves God, we had to bring out her mysterious side, so that was difficult.” Yuikawa said, “During the dubbing, I just wanted to convey Tokiyuki’s excitement when he’s running away, and how much fun he is having. I don’t think most people feel like they’re having fun while running away, but Tokiyuki is unique in that he feels happy when death is nearby, so I kept thinking about how to convey that.”
At the end of the event
Suzuyo: “I had a lot of fun right from the audition, so I’m happy to be standing in front of you all. All the staff and cast members took on the role with great enthusiasm. I hope you’ll see for yourself how Tokiyuki lives his life and how he becomes a legend.”
Hino: “All the staff and cast members have really put their love and passion into this production. I’m pretty excited about it, too, but I hope everyone will once again tune in with bated breath in front of the TV.”
Yano: “Mr. Matsui was at the last premiere screening, and he got angry at me for not praising the film more (laughs). That’s how much effort we put into the film. I think the impression will change once the opening and ending are included, so I hope you’ll look forward to watching it.”
