In the middle of the event, on Saturday, September 14th, a special screening and talk show was held to commemorate the “TV Anime “Yowamushi Pedal” 10th Anniversary Festival.” The first theatrical release, “Yowamushi Pedal Re:RIDE,” was screened, and a talk show was held with Yamashita Daiki, who plays Onoda Sakamichi, and Kakihara Tetsuya, who plays Toudou Jinpachi.
In this article, we will report on the talk show with Yamashita and Kakihara that took place before the screening!
Yamashita and Kakihara were invited onto the stage by the moderator, Ken Washizaki. They started off by talking about the ongoing “TV Anime “Yowamushi Pedal” 10th Anniversary Festival” exhibition.
Yamashita-san went to see the exhibition right up until the very last minute before the talk show started. It brought back memories of the TV anime series and made him feel very nostalgic. In particular, when he saw the collection of famous quotes, he remembered the lines he said during recordings and the frequent shouting he did during his acting.
They also seemed to have thoroughly looked around at the many other unique exhibits and photo spots. They also seemed surprised by the character of Midosuji and how convenient it was for exhibits.
The next topic was “Looking back on the past 10 years.” As this was Yamashita’s first lead role, he looked back on his life as a voice actor along with “Yowamushi Pedal.” He had known Kakihara before they acted together in “Yowamushi Pedal,” and from that time on, he had the impression that Kakihara was someone he could talk about anything with openly.
Kakihara also said that from the first time they met, he was certain that Yamashita would definitely be successful as a voice actor, and was surprised when they actually met again as Sakamichi less than a year later.
Furthermore, both of them spoke about their feelings for the characters, expressing their gratitude for the characters and works they have been able to work with for 10 years.
The conversation then turned to the dubbing process at the time, and host Washizaki asked, “Was there any tension between you and the opposing team even during the dubbing?” Yamashita replied that the cast members got along well with each other, so they trusted each other and gave it their all.
Kakihara-san also said that the energy at the dubbing site was amazing, and seeing the other cast members fighting with all their might inspired him to want to do even more, which in turn inspired others to work harder, creating a loop that really inspired him as an actor. Yamashita-san nodded in agreement when he said, “Even though it was winter, we were dubbing with the air conditioning on full blast, drenched in sweat.”
After reminiscing on memories, we decided to take a look at the merchandise on sale at the TV Anime “Yowamushi Pedal” 10th Anniversary Festival. We took a look at the merchandise, highlighting Midosuji’s great sense of style, Toudouan Manju, the family home of Toudou, played by Kakihara, and Yamashita’s favorite Makishima’s book cover.

The event came to a close in the blink of an eye, and Mr. Ito gave a brief closing speech, saying, “Since it’s our 10th anniversary, I wanted to tell many more heartwarming stories.”
Kakihara commented, “It’s been a while since I last talked with Taiki, so I was happy to be able to have a long chat. I was also happy to be able to talk about old times and things before I met Yowamushi Pedal. Please invite me to another event like this.”
Yamashita concluded the event by saying, “A lot has happened in the past 10 years. Every time we overcome something, I feel that a bond that can only be found here is born. I was glad that this event allowed us to show Kakihara-san’s incredible love for the work. I was also happy to be able to convey my feelings over the past 10 years. I hope you will continue to support the work!”
