The event was held in two parts, with Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Ayana Taketatsu, and Miku Ito taking to the stage. The official report from the first part has arrived!
The TV special anime “The Quintessential Quintuplets*” began screening in theaters nationwide for a limited period of three weeks on September 20, 2024. On September 21, a stage greeting for the film was held at Shinjuku Wald 9 in Tokyo. On stage were Matsuoka Yoshitsugu, who plays Uesugi Fuutarou, Taketatsu Ayana, who plays Nakano Nino, and Ito Miku, who plays Nakano Miku. The stage greeting was held twice, in Part 1 and Part 2, and we will report on Part 1, which was held after the main screening.
“The Quintessential Quintuplets*” is an original story that depicts what happens “after” the movie “The Quintessential Quintuplets” released in 2022. Based on the original idea and supervision by the original author, Negi Haruba, the story depicts the “honeymoon arc” of the protagonist Futaro Uesugi and the quintuplets. When the three came on stage at the invitation of TBS announcer Mai Sasaki, who served as the host, they immediately shared their thoughts on the “completely new work.”
“I never thought that the author would write a sequel, so I’m overwhelmed with emotion,” said Matsuoka. Taketatsu and Ito immediately chimed in, “It’s not a single character!”, but the audience seemed to understand, and they erupted in applause.
Regarding the story, Matsuoka seemed to be intrigued by the fact that the sisters came along on Fuutarou and Yotsuba’s honeymoon. Ito declared, “Honeymoons are something everyone goes on together,” and Taketatsu commented, “Fuutarou was the one who was most into it,” referring to Fuutarou, who had prepared a handwritten bookmark. Matsuoka said that the quintuplets were “cold” towards Fuutarou, who had made the bookmark, but Ito said, “Despite what they say, it seems like everyone would treasure the bookmark,” to which both Matsuoka and Taketatsu nodded in agreement.
Regarding the fact that a new animation has been made two years in a row since the release of the film, Taketatsu said, “The world of The Quintessential Quintuplets is expanding.” “Every year, I feel sad that it’s almost over, but more and more works, events, and related products are announced. I feel like it’s not going to end anytime soon,” she said with a smile. When Matsuoka replied, “If you keep saying that, the sensei will make another one,” both Taketatsu and Ito declared, “Let’s keep saying it, because this is an opportunity to make The Quintessential Quintuplets eternal!” With growing expectations, the three of them let their imaginations run wild about the future and descendants (!?) of the quintuplets and Futaro.
印象的だったシーンを聞かれた松岡さんは、風太郎が五つ子の水着を選ぶシーンをピックアップ。「男性同伴で水着を買いに行くものなのか」、「四葉と付き合っている風太郎がほかの姉妹と買い物に行くことについて」といったテーマで盛り上がった。伊藤さんもこの回想シーンがお気に入りのようで、「夫婦とその姉妹」となった本編と違い、二乃や三玖たちがまだ風太郎への大胆さを残しているところにかわいらしさを感じたという。
そして、話題は主題歌へ。竹達さんはOP主題歌「五等分の笑顔」について、「南の国を連想させるような爽やかな曲。五つ子ちゃんたちが浮かれてる様子を想像しながら楽しく歌わせていただきました」と、レコーディングの思い出を語ってくれた。挿入歌「輝き出した私たち」は、「キラキラとした五つ子のことが思い浮かんだ」という伊藤さん。「風太郎への気持ちや応援してくださっている皆さんへの気持ち、今までがあるからこそ今私たちはここで輝いているという気持ちが伝わってきました」と、楽曲の魅力を熱く語ってくれた。
本編のエンディングでは、春場ねぎ先生描き下ろしのイラストが使用され、ED主題歌「メモリーズ」に合わせて制作の過程がタイムラプスで見られる演出があった。普段は見ることができないレアな映像に3人とも大興奮。松岡さんは5人が揃っているイラストそのものにも惹かれたようで、「修学旅行の帰りのバス(第2期)もそうでしたが、この5人が揃っているといいんですよね。すごく平和なんです」と、しみじみ語ってくれた。
最後はキャストそれぞれから、メッセージが贈られた。一部を抜粋して紹介する。
「皆さんの長きにわたる『五等分の花嫁』への愛がこの新作に繋がりました。本当に、本当にありがとうございます。紆余曲折ありながら成長していった五つ子ですが、今作は五つ子と風太郎と一緒にリゾートに行くような気持ちで何度も楽しんでいただけたら嬉しいです」(伊藤美来）

「頑張っていた事務所の後輩(リリー役／橘 杏咲)も含め、みんなで収録できたのもありがたいことでした。なんやかんや言わせていただきましたが、『風太郎と四葉の新婚旅行だった』という終わり方が本当によかったです。この2人だったら今後も大丈夫でしょう」(松岡禎丞)
