We have received an official report from the advance screening of episodes 1 to 3 held on Saturday, August 31st!
At the advance screening, Shion Wakayama, who plays Momo (Ayase Momo), Natsuki Hanae, who plays Okarun (Takakura Ken), and Kazuya Nakai, who plays the Serpo alien, appeared on stage and had a talk with the audience after the screening.
In addition, it has been announced that the podcast “Danda Danwa-shitsu,” which looks back on the TV anime “Dandadan” and shares the character settings and staff attention to detail behind the scenes of the work, will be distributed every Friday from 8:00 p.m. on October 4th on Spotify and YouTube.
“Dandadan” is a popular manga by Ryu Yukinobu, which has a total circulation of 3.2 million copies and over 440 million views, and is currently being serialized (updated every Tuesday) on Shueisha’s manga magazine app “Shonen Jump +”. Momo (Ayase Momo), a high school girl born into a family of spiritualists, and her classmate Okarun (Takakura Ken), an occult enthusiast. The two began talking after Momo saved Okarun from a bully in their class, but an argument ensued between Momo, who believes in ghosts but denies the existence of aliens, and Okarun, who believes in aliens but denies the existence of ghosts.
In order to make them believe in aliens and ghosts, which both deny, Momo goes to an abandoned hospital that is a UFO spot, and Okarun goes to a haunted tunnel. There, the two encounter an overwhelming mystery that is beyond comprehension. Momo awakens her hidden power in a desperate situation, and Okarun, who has acquired the power of a curse, challenges the approaching mystery! A fateful love story begins! An occult battle and coming-of-age story.
When asked about the appeal of this work, Wakayama replied, “There is so much that is appealing, so it’s difficult to pick just one, but if I had to choose one succinctly, I guess it would be its power.” He added emphatically, “The battle scenes are of course great, but the momentum of the comedy scenes is also interesting and appealing.”
She also spoke passionately about how, when playing Momo, she “adjusted the intonation and tone of my words while being careful about how gal-like my voice was.” Nakai, who was listening to Wakayama’s comments from the side, couldn’t help but blurt out her true feelings, saying, “I’ve never given such a serious stage greeting (laughs).” She seemed surprised by Wakayama’s sincere response, but praised her, saying, “Actually, this is good! It properly conveys the appeal of the work!”
Hanae, who echoed Nakai’s unique honest thoughts, said about playing Okarun, “If I had to pick one thing, it would be the ‘glasses-like’ feeling.” He then drew laughter as he continued, “I’ve always worn glasses, so there are some similarities between us.”
一方で“真面目な感じ”では、「彼は初登場時、暗い印象があるんです」と語り、「モモと出会うことによって、『自分の好きなことをこんなに楽しそうに喋れるんだ』とか、言い合いになったときに『こんなに言い合える仲なんだ』とか、『実際に喋ってみたらとっても面白いし、優しいし、いいヤツじゃん』という印象に変わってもらえるような、オカルンのことを好きになってもらえるよう意識しました」と熱い想いを述べました。
一方、中井さんはセルポ星人を演じるうえで「設定にもあるように喜怒哀楽を失った星人ということで、なんにも感じていないような部分を意識しています。特に、一番最初に喋る“A”は、顔は笑っているけど、感情がないように聞こえれば良いなと思っています」と演技プランを語りました。
3人をはじめ、星子役の水樹奈々さん、ターボババア役の田中真弓さんらが出演する本作は、レギュラー陣の幅広い年齢層も大きな特徴。その中で座長であり、最年少の若山さんは「初日はすごく緊張していました。年齢は一番下ですし、セリフ量も多くて。しかも『ダンダダン』という（注目の）作品ということで、どんどんプレッシャーが積み重なって、ヨタヨタしながら現場に入りました。でもみなさん優しくて、すごく暖かく迎えてくれました」と当時を振り返ります。
謙遜する若山さんに、花江さんが「座長の詩音ちゃんが演技で引っ張ってくれました」と伝え、「本当にギャルなんじゃないか？と思わされて。それくらいハマっていました」と演技を絶賛すると、若山さんは恥ずかしそうな面持ちで「みなさんに引っ張っていただいて、なんとか最後まで乗り切ることができました。本当に感謝の気持でいっぱいです」と満面の笑みでお礼を伝えました。
最後に3人から、本作の放送を楽しみに待つ方へメッセージを送りました。中井さんは「見てもらえれば『すごい！』と思ってもらえることを確信しています。X など SNS を通して、観客のみなさんに作品の魅力を発信してほしいです」と呼びかけました。
「アフレコが本当に毎週楽しくて！ 終始テンションが高く、情緒も激しい作品ということで、とっても楽しいけど、毎回クタクタになりながら演じていました」と振り返った花江さん。今後については「個人的には第4話がめちゃめちゃおすすめなので、ぜひ放送を楽しみに待っていてください」と期待を煽りました。
若山さんは「アフレコのときから本当にすごい映像で、（スタッフの）愛が詰まった作品だなと感じていました。そして、出来上がった映像を見させていただいて、よりその気持が強まりました！ その気持がみなさんにも届いていれば嬉しいです」と率直な気持ちを吐露。
最後に、「ぜひSNSで、『すごかった』『めっちゃ良かった』と呟いていただけたら嬉しいです。今後とも『ダンダダン』をよろしくお願いいたします！」と笑顔を見せ、イベントを締めくくりました。
