The web commercial “To 17-year-old Kenji” will be released on the Z-Kai YouTube channel on Thursday, June 27, 2024. Ryunosuke Kamiki will be voicing the main character, Kenji Koiso, for the first time in 15 years.
Also on the same day, the Z-Kai X account (@zkai) will launch an ultra-difficult question campaign in which participants will be asked to try to solve “that question” that Kenji solved in the movie.
The concept of this commercial is that 15 years later, Kenji Koiso, now an adult, sends a letter to the main character of “Summer Wars.”
This was made possible by asking actor Ryunosuke Kamiki, who voiced Kenji, to dub the letter again. The letter looks back on the summer when Kenji desperately faced difficult problems, and tells him, “What you were solving back then was your own future.”
There is also a scene where the voices of the two Kenjis from 15 years ago and now synchronize as they read out the famous line, “If you give up, you’ll never be able to solve it.” together!
This commercial will encourage and push students as they study towards their future.

On the Z-kai X account, we have released an original code problem that recreates “that problem” that Kenji solved! It is an extremely difficult problem created by the Z-kai teaching material editorial staff, based on the mysterious number sequence that appeared in the movie “Summer Wars”.
These questions will also be displayed at Ueda Electric Railway Ueda Station in Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture, where the movie is set.
Also, hints are available in the tree posts of the problem post! There are four hints in total, and they will be unlocked one by one as the time limit counts down. Please refer to these as well.
The answer is entered as a website link, and only those who solve it will be able to access the special code-breaking website!
This is a super difficult campaign where you can enter a giveaway by posting your thoughts on X via the special code-breaking website. The giveaway is a clear file with an original design for this campaign, and 20 people will be drawn from those who apply. Here is the design!
